TERRACING often involves installing retaining walls to keep soil level along a slope. Major projects require a contractor. But terrace walls less than three feet tall can be built by the gardener.
Terracing makes a dynamic statement, and can be used to extend the architecture of buildings into a sloping landscape. Retaining walls and steps are solid, permanent additions and a long-term investment.
Terracing Grade Away from Home
The two most common ways to determine the slope of a lawn are through the use of strings with a string level (shown) and by placing a leveling bar on a 8 foot long 2X4.
