Cutting down a tree is really a last resort, tree surgeons much prefer to be involved earlier in a tree's life where they can use tree selection, formative pruning and the development of fertilising and irrigation programs to control its growth.
Removal is a messy business, as any tree surgeon will tell you, dust, dirt, dead leaves, bird nests and insects invariably end up down your neck, in your mouth and in your hair.
I have a tree surgeons saw (Felco 62; I am brand loyal to the good stuff) that I love with all my heart.
They reduce the light penetration within the plant, causing interior foliage to die. Make a habit of checking your trees every year. If heavy pruning is required on large trees, consult with an expert, such as a certified arborist or tree surgeon.
