VARIEGATED LEAF -- A green leaf design which is blotched, edged or spotted with yellow, white or cream color. VARIETY -- One of possibly many closely-related plant species. The variety name is usually in Latin.
Abutilon has been experiencing a renaissance recently, mostly because of the variegated leaf varieties. This mix is strictly green leaved, but the mix of pastel colors is nothing short of scrumptious.
The green and white variegated leaf blades spike upward and then arch over the basket, providing a lovely habit. But the real treat is when the wiry branches produce 'baby spiders.
Periwinkle, which comes in green or variegated leaf forms. The flowers can be pink and white as well as the bright violet-blue that gave this plant its name. Periwinkle has oval, leathery leaves an inch or so long that are beautiful all winter.
The many varieties are grown for their cool looking leaf textures and variegated leaf colors. Colors of the leaves vary from yellow green to dark green. Varigations are green and white or green and cream-colored.
Many of the Costus genus, for example C. productus, have edible flowers and the sweet subtle fragrance and flavour make an ideal garnish for salads. Costus speciosus variegata has a variegated leaf and produces white flowers.
