Vegetative Propagation: Making new plants asexually, usually by taking cuttings or layering, etc.
Vermiculite: Expanded mica mixed with compost for cuttings to help retain water and give a good air supply.

vegetative
The part of the plant that is not associated with the fruits and nuts.

vegetative growth -- Growth of a plant by division of cells, without sexual reproduction.
venation -- The arrangement and pattern of veins in a leaf.

Vegetative reproduction - Asexual reproduction of plants.
Vessel element - Large cells present in angiosperms that form a water transport tube.
Viroid - A plant pathogen.

vegetative. Plant parts or plant growth not involved in the production of seed, such as roots, stems, and leaves.
vein banding. Dark brown discoloration of the veins on the undersides of potato leaflets caused by potato virus Y.

Vegetative The leafy or green portions of a plant.
Venation Arrangement or pattern of veins or vessels and their relative association.
Venulose With very fine hairs.

vegetative propagation The increase of plants by asexual means using vegetative parts. Normally results in a population of identical individuals.

Vegetative Propagation: using various parts of an established plant, such as leaves, stems, roots or buds, to produce new plants that bear the same physical characteristics of their originating plant clone

Most vegetative matter, such as tree leaves, plant stems, grass clippings and small twigs, makes good compost. Some household garbage, such as vegetable peelings, also can be put into the pile.

ASEXUAL: Vegetative reproductions - i.e. cuttings and division.
ATRIUM: A structure that provides lots of above light for plants. Commercial buildings often have their foyer as an atrium. Many homes have built in atriums.

Root-Vegetative plant part that anchors the plant, absorbs water and minerals in solution, and often stores food. It is distinguished from a rhizome by not having nodes.

A green or vegetative roof can lengthen the life of your roof and lower your energy costs.

When it comes to vegetative propagation, I naturally think of taking a plant cutting and rooting it in the ground or in some other media.

(ME. Fr. L. emergent-, emergens, pres. part. of emergere,to emerge - more at emerge) any of various plants (as a cattail) rooted in shallow water and having most of the vegetative growth above the water.emersed search for term- adj.

A cutting is a vegetative plant part which is severed from the parent plant in order to regenerate itself, thereby forming a whole new plant. Take cuttings with a sharp blade to reduce injury to the parent plant.

Zygoneria hybrids are propagated by seed, since vegetatively produced progeny are not stable. Every crop of seedlings is a 'strain', with its natural variations, rather than a unique cultivar.

It does best where it has poorer soil, tending to grow vegetatively in rich soil. A kissing cousin is Cross vine, Bignonia capreolata, with dark red tubular flowers which are yellow throated. It grows statewide. Then look at the honeysuckles.

Hostas grow best with some shade, which produces a variety of vegetative foliage in many different colors. Thrives in USDA hardiness zones three through eight.

For fresh market production, continue monitoring for lesions on leaves of vegetative terminal shoots (photo 2-5) and on fruit (photos 2-7, 2-8).

Don't prune heavily in winter and early spring, because you'll be pruning off flower buds and encouraging new (nonblooming) vegetative growth. You can improve flowering by pruning heavily after bloom time, in late spring or early summer.

PROPAGATION: The easiest method of propagating these plants is from vegetative cuttings. This involves taking 3"-5" cuttings from the strongest shoots available.

Most onions are biennial, which means that they grow vegetatively the first year and bloom the second year. Onion sets are marble-sized bulbs that grew from seed the previous year.

Clones are the result of asexual or vegetative propagation, whereas, seeds are the result of sexual propagation.

Beans have four stages of development: germination and establishment, rapid vegetative growth, flowering and pod development, and pod fill and maturation.

select from vegetative rather than flowering wood. Lengths of wood about 20cm (8in)
long and no thicker than a pencil are ideal. Most popular woody plants can be rooted
directly outside in the open ground.

Nitrogen is necessary for all vegetative growth-roots, leaves, stems, flowers and fruit.

Next, Making More Plants discusses vegetative propagation. There are several excellent sets of instructions that lead you through the making of a sweat box and a misting system.

The 'Supertunia' series is vegetatively propagated, meaning it is grown from cuttings, not seed. Supertunias are part of the Proven Winner series. Vigorous growers and bloomers, they require frequent feeding to stay at their peak.

In Bryophytes, the gametophyte is the vegetative part of mosses and liverworths and the dominant phase of their life cycle, and work as hosters for the reduced sporophytes.

For continued vegetative growth, remove any flower spikes it produces or the plant will go to seed and decline or die. Start fertilizing in the early spring when the plant begins to show signs of new growth.

Worms love grounds and all vegetative matter. If they are provided regularly, our friends will procreate more worms, and soon we'll have them all over the garden, digging holes for air and water, ...

Any structure having the capacity to give rise to a new plant, whether through sexual or asexual (vegetative) reproduction. This includes seeds, spores, and any part of the vegetative body capable of independent growth if detached from the parent.

Heavy pruning stimulates vegetative growth and reduces or eliminates fruit production. When heavily pruned, many fruit trees produce water sprouts that grow vertically from normal branches.

Light colored sands and gravels are the common base materials of Zen gardens, and are supplemented by natural vegetative elements such as rocks, driftwood or weathered logs, ...

We feed the seeds with plain water until the plants come up and then switch to a dilute vegetative growth solution (inorganic powder; calcium nitrate, magnesium sulfate, and a "grow" mixture).

Annual plants are those which take only one year to complete a full life-cycle of germination, vegetative growth, flower production, seed set, and death.

Ortet- An original plant from which a vegetatively propagated clone has been derived.
Overstory- That portion of the trees in a forest of more than one story forming the upper or uppermost canopy layer.

CLONE: A genetically identical group of plants, created from one individual by vegetative propagation.
COLORED LEAF: Leaves with one or more colors apart from green, white or cream are distinctly present.

Seed propagation is one of the easiest methods of growing plants. It generally takes longer than vegetative propagation but at the same time is easy and inexpensive, and is used by commercial growers to amateur gardeners alike.

Lingonberries require little fertilizer. In fact, excessive nitrogen will overstimulate vegetative growth and decrease fruitfulness. It may also interfere with hardening and increase winterkill.

BIENNIALS
Plants that live only two years and die are called biennials. Plants usually grow vegetatively (producing leaves) the first year and flowering the second.

All-purpose (General-purpose) fertilizer - A balanced blend of N-P-K; all purpose fertilizer for soil and is used by most growers in the vegetative growth stage. Miracle-Gro and Peters is an example. They are not recommended for hydroponics.

This fungi overwinter in soil, and can be transmitted by seed, contaminated soil and other growing media, garden equipment, watering, plant roots, or other vegetative parts.

This layer of vegetative material protects the bare soil during the summer months by reducing soil temperature, suppressing weed growth and reducing soil moisture loss. Our compost can do the same thing in our gardens and landscapes.

Slip: -- A soft stem cutting taken for the purpose of "cloning" or propagating a plant vegetatively. See cuttings.

These methods range from planting seeds to the more complicated arts of budding and grafting. With the exception of seed sowing, all methods of starting new plants are known as vegetative propagation: the new plants that result will be identical to ...

Beware of high-nitrogen fertilizers. Although you may get plenty of vegetative growth, fruit production won't be as good. Pace plants cover crops, such as clover, under his blueberries to add nitrogen to the soil naturally.

Growing caraway seeds requires some patience as the caraway plant is a biennial and doesn't do more than grow vegetatively in the first season. The caraway plant resembles a carrot and sets seed in its second year.

Select the fertilizer form that works best for you and follow label directions for application rate. Fertilizers that are higher in nitrogen will produce vegetative growth rather than flowers.

The warm season favorite, Bermuda grass, has very low shade tolerance. Zoysia grass is much better in the shade, or if you are willing to use a vegetative start (sod or plugs), St. Augustine is the best of all.

organic matter additions derived from the turnover of roots and other plant tissues that are synthesized in part from atmospheric CO2 via photosynthesis. A high proportion of the world's most fertile soils have been developed under a vegetative ...
