Weeds are a fact of life, but there are a few tips that can make weeding easy for even the greenest beginner.

Weeding is not all bad. There's actually something wonderfully therapeutic about it. Very little brain energy is required, and I find that with my hands busy, I'm free to daydream, ponder the big questions, or just check out for awhile.

Weeding your garden in the morning, before the dew has dried, is also a good time to weed. While the soil will not be as soft as it would be after a rainfall or after watering, it will still be softer than later in the afternoon.

You can eliminate a lot of the weeding by placing breathable weed barrier cloth around the plants in your flower beds and covering it with wood chips or some other filler. Keep in mind wood chips are much easier to remove than rock.

Since the aim is to make the vegetable garden a paradise for the productive plants, the last thing you want is competition. Weeds will take light, water and food from those plants that you are nurturing, so they must go.
