This is the upright weeping form of the Giant Californian Redwood. The tree has very bizarre growth habits and can assume fantastic shapes. The trunk continues to grow straight up and its side branches have the habit of weeping straight down.
It has a graceful, open, slightly weeping form as well as thinly leathery, symmetric, ovate-elliptic (oval to egg-shaped) 3- to 5-inch leaves.
Numerous cultivars exist, including dwarf and weeping forms. 'Globosa', also sold as 'Glauca Globosa', is likely 'R. H. Montgomery,' a broad blue dwarf form which may take on a more conical shape as it matures.
'Pendula' is a weeping form, while 'Fastigiata' grows upright. 'Blue Shag' has blue foliage, and 'Nivea' has bluish needles tipped in white.
