Pine wilt is a lethal disease of pines that can suddenly appear in pines that are usually at least 15 years old, although occasionally in trees as young as 7 years.

 


Bacterial wilt is carried by the cucumber beetle. The bacteria hibernate in the digestive tract of the beetles. Feeding by these insects results in deep wounds to leaves.

Verticillium Wilt of Catalpa and Other Trees
A rapid wilting of catalpa trees is presumably the result of a disease called Verticillium wilt. This can be confirmed by culturing.

Wilt and Mildew Prevention. Check spent vegetable plants for powdery mildew, wilt, or spots of any kind before adding them to the compost pile. If you suspect disease, throw them in the garbage instead.

Wilt-Loss of rigidity and drooping of plant parts caused by dry soil conditions or interference with water conduction inside the stems, e.g., boring insects, pathogens.

WILT - A plant disease. This can be caused by bacteria or fungi. Many are carried by insects.

wilt (1) Lack of freshness, turgor, and the drooping of leaves from a lack of water. (2) A vascular disease that interrupts a plant's normal uptake and distribution of water.

Wilt symptoms are a key problem. Only a few branches are affected on some trees; on others entire canopies of leaves yellow, curl and drop off prematurely.

Wilt disease is yet another tribulation. It especially affects the China asters. "An awful problem," he says. To free his roses from aphids, he sprays with nicotine sulfate, using soap as a sticker-spreader.

Astilbes wilt and brown quickly if not watered during drought. They can go dormant and may eventually perish. The first symptom of dissatisfaction is leaf tip browning, but new growth will sprout if supplemental water is forthcoming.

Plants can wilt as a result of not being watered frequently enough or from damaged roots sometimes caused by watering too often.

Clematis wilt
The fungus disease clematis wilt can strike without any warning. The foliage of affected plants turns black overnight and individual stems, or usually the whole plant, collapse.

This disease occurs over most of the United States. It affects cucumbers and muskmelons and, less commonly, pumpkins and squash.

If the leaves wilt and the soil is moist enough, mist the leaves each day until they recover.

Verticillium wilt
Symptom: Lower leaves begin to wilt; foliage appears mottled, the leaf areas between veins turning yellow, then brown.

The leaves may wilt during hot weather, but if the soil is kept moist it should recover.
Note: If your zucchini plants aren't getting enough water, this can cause the immature fruit to fall off the the vine.

Moisture stress is a common problem for impatiens across climates; without enough watering, they will not only wilt, but if the wilt is allowed to continue, they will drop leaves and flowers and be much more prone to pests and diseases.

Clematis wilt can occur at any time, however it usually happens just as the flower buds begin to open. The whole plant can be affected or as most often happens, only one or two of the stems collapse.

An overhead watering will keep plants cool and wilt-free during the hottest weather, and a strong spray from the hose will wash off dust and pollen, as well as those nasty red spider mites that can suck the life out of a rose leaf in no time flat.

To encourage new growth, pinch off the spent blooms as they wilt. Light pruning in the early spring to open up the plant and remove dead growth will allow better air circulation and help prevent fungal diseases.
