Wound paints and dressings claim to prevent rot and help trees heal from pruning wounds, but research suggests that in most cases they actually do more harm than good.
Insect entry is not prevented by tree wound paints. Insects will still bore into dying wood above and below the wound-dressed area. Treating with wound dressings is mainly cosmetic in effect.
