Divide your yard in to zones. Don't let one sprinkler zone include too many different garden elements. Your lawn needs more water than your cactus garden, so it makes sense to put them in different zones.

If you've got a wood chipper, grind the trunk and thick branches into chips, which you can add to your compost heap or use as mulch next spring. Or, simply place tree and stand in a corner of your yard to supply shelter for overwintering birds.
