Baking stones or tiles absorb moisture and produce an intense, dry oven heat that crisps pizza crusts or free-form bread loaves.

Baking stone:
A round or rectangular plate of stone or unglazed, tile-like material used to provide the baking qualities of a brick oven floor. The stone is placed on the lowest oven rack.

If you are going to be baking a lot of bread, you might consider investing in either a baking stone or just lining the bottom of your oven with a clean unglazed terra cotta tile.

With wide ends of triangles toward the center, arrange 8 triangles in a circle on large baking stone. Corners of wide ends will touch and points will extend 1 inch beyond edge of baking stone.

Baking stone or bricks - a heavy duty baking sheet can be used instead.
Pizza peel - paddle like tool for removing pizza from the oven - a couple of spatulas will work fine too.
