Bean sauce is a Chinese condiment made from salted, fermented soybeans. Yellow bean sauce, known in Thailand as dao jiow and in Malaysia as tau cheo, is a lighter variation of the more common, stronger-flavored brown bean sauce from China.

Bean sauce, brown or yellow
Sauce made from soybeans and salt. Often comes in cans. Some bean sauces may contain bean halves and others may be a smooth sauce, similar to Japanese red miso, which can be used as a substitute in some recipes.

Bean sauce - A soybean condiment that is an essential ingredient in stir-fries. It is labeled either "whole bean sauce" or "ground bean sauce," which tends to be saltier. Available in Asian markets and many supermarkets.

Bean Sauce - A thick (really more like a paste than a sauce) aromatic sauce that is made from soybeans mixed with flour and salt, and fermented. There are a number of varieties, including brown bean sauce, yellow bean sauce and bean paste.

Chinese Pork Tenderloin is a main dish hoisin recipe created of pork tenderloins trimmed, light soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sherry, black bean sauce, minced fresh ginger root, packed brown sugar, clove garlic, sesame oil, and chinese five-spice powder.

This method is also referred as jiang shao [酱烧] 'braising with bean sauce'; other related techniques are bai shao [白烧] 'white braising' (using a pale cooking liquid untainted by soy sauce) and and cong shao [è'±çƒ§] 'onion braising'.

Korea adds black bean sauce, China adds Szechwan flavors, Japan combines seafood and milder spices, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia prefer spicier ingredients, while North America prefers milder spices and vegetables for a slightly seasoned flavor.

Guilin Chilli Sauce A chilli bean sauce made with fermented salted yellow beans, red chillies, garlic, sugar, vinegar and starch. It originates from the Guangxi area of China (in the South). Usually found in an earthenware pot.
