A broccoflower (also known as romanesco broccoli) is a hybrid created by crossing cauliflower with the related broccoli. It has a very unusual apearance, being a bright yellow-green with spiky florets.

Broccoli, Broccoflower, Purple broccoli, Chinese Broccoli - Broccoli is a relative of cabbage, Brussels sprouts and cauliflower. A head of broccoli is a bouquet of tiny flower buds.

Other variants and genetic crosses include broccoflower, which is somewhat sweeter and milder than broccoli; and Romanesco, which has a unique pyramidal shape with spiral florets.

When selecting, buy broccoli that is dark green in color (Romanesco and broccoflower excluded, each being lighter green in color) and very firm.

garlic, 1 teaspoon of sweet smoked paprika and a bay leaf quickly in a little extra virgin olive oil. Add a splash of wine vinegar and some chopped red onion and toss it with boiled Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, broccolini or broccoflower.
