buttercup squash Notes: With sweet and creamy orange flesh, the buttercup is one of the more highly regarded winter squashes. The biggest shortcoming is that it tends to be a bit dry. Choose specimens that are heavy for their size.

 


Buttercup Squash - flat and round with a distinctive knot at the top of their dark green and gray-streaked shell. These sweet squash have bright orange flesh with a smooth, dry texture.

Turban, or Buttercup squash - a beautiful specimen that resembles a fat teardrop. Deep-green in colour with flashes of orange, the intense orange flesh is rich and nutty and mellows upon roasting.

Anonymous: Kabocha and buttercup squash are indeed very similar, and are often labeled interchangeably at markets, although genuine kabocha squash are rounder and buttercup squash are squarer.

Butternut squash is another common winter squash. It is light brown in color and resembles a vase, with striking orange flesh. Buttercup squash is round and ranges from dark green to rich red in color, with tender, sweet flesh.

Some of the most important varieties are the small corrugated acorn squash (available all year-round), butternut squash, buttercup squash, green and blue hubbard squash, green and gold delicious squash, and banana squash.
