Cane syrup - A sweet, dark brown, very thick sugar cane syrup, tasting something like dark brown sugar.

Cane syrup, golden syrup, and light treacle are unfortunately not exact substitutes for corn syrup.

golden syrup = cane juice = jus de canne = cane syrup = sugar cane juice = light treacle Notes: This amber-colored liquid sweetener is popular among British, Caribbean, and Creole cooks.

An unrefined or raw sugar coated with molasses and processed into crystals or cubes of sugar during the first crystallization of the cane syrup. As a crystal particle its size is larger, the texture is coarser and it is stickier than refined sugar.

Also know as cane syrup or light treacle, golden syrup is made by evaporating sugar-cane juice until it is thick, syrupy, and golden-colored.

To make demerara sugar, sugar producers press sugar cane and steam the juice of the first pressing to form thick cane syrup. The cane syrup is allowed to dehydrate, leaving behind large golden brown crystals of sugar.

The boiled-down sap of the maple tree, this syrup is very popular in the United States and Canada. It is expensive; cheaper varieties are made from a mixture of maple syrup mixed with cane syrup.
