Starchy carbohydrates are sometimes called complex carbohydrates. Examples of starchy carbohydrates include legumes, brown rice, unripe bananas, and most grains that are served whole.

Carbohydrates - the food group containing sugars, starches, and cellulose.
Carbonnades - a French beef stew cooked with beer.
Carrageen / Carraghen Moss - an edible seaweed; Irish moss.

carbohydrates - Carbohydrates are a group of organic compounds that contain carbon in combination with the same proportion of hydrogen and oxygen (as in water). All starches and sugars are carbohydrates.

Carbohydrates used in cooking include simple sugars such as glucose (from table sugar) and fructose (from fruit), and starches from sources such as cereal flour, rice, arrowroot, potato.

Carbohydrates may be classified as monosaccharides, disaccharides, or polysaccharides by the number of sugar units they contain. Monosaccharides contain 1 sugar unit, disaccharides contain 2, and polysaccharides contain 3 or more.

Carbohydrates - are organic compounds that vary from simple sugars to complex polymers and include sugars, starches and fiber. They provide 4 calories per gram to the diet, except fiber (see Fiber). Plants are the only source of carbohydrates.

Complex carbohydrates should be a major part of your diet; about half of your daily calories should come from carbohydrates -- mostly from grains, cereals, fruits and vegetables.

Complex carbohydrates help the brain produce serotonin, and the more slowly your body absorbs available carbohydrates, the more evenly this serotonin flows, keeping us calm over a longer period.

fiber: complex carbohydrates. Many vegan foods are high in fiber, including apples, artichokes, beans, and pears.

carbohydrate - Carbohydrates are organic compounds that consist of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. They vary from simple sugars containing from three to seven carbon atoms to very complex polymers.
