Cereal refers to grain and foods derived from them; cereal is from Ceres, a pre-Roman goddess of agriculture. Also see Grain.

Cereal crops or grains are mostly grasses cultivated for their edible grains or seeds (i.e., botanically a type of fruit called a caryopsis).

Oats - A cereal grain that is rich and flavorful and comes in many forms. Very popular in Northern Europe, Scotland and Ireland. Oats to be consumed by humans are cleaned, toasted, hulled to become what we call oat groats.
