Coconut oil has many uses outside the baker's kitchen. Coconut oil has long been used as a moisturizer, and it can also be used for making other cosmetics, soap, and hair products.

Coconut Oil: A ingredient used to thin chocolate or soften finished candy and make it less brittle. Coconut oil has a long shelf life compared to other oils, lasting up to two years due to its resilience to high temperatures.

Khopra (desiccated coconut) contains about 60 to 70% coconut oil. Coconut oil is composed, as might be inferred by its high melting point of over 32 °C, mostly of triglycerides of saturated fatty acids.

Baking: Dairy-free spreads and coconut oil both make good cakes and pastry although the flavour is not as good as with butter. However, check ingredients carefully as many 'dairy-free' spreads contain lactose, whey or casein.

Palm Kernel Oil is similar to Coconut oil in fatty acid composition which makes it a good oil, yet it is much different than oil made from the fruit. Palm Kernel Oil does not contain the high amounts of antioxidants found in Natural Red Palm Oil.
