Grappa is an alcoholic beverage made from the squished skins, seeds and stems (the pomace) left over after grapes have been pressed to make wine. Grappa is the Italian name. In France, it is called eau-de-vie de marc or simply marc.

Grappa is a colorless Italian spirit distilled from grape skins and seeds left behind after pressing for wine. High in alcohol content, grappa is used as an after-dinner drink on its own or added to coffee or espresso.

grappa (GRAHP-pah) - An old alcoholic beverage made from the remnants of wine-grape pressings (whatever was leftover, including stems, seeds, and skins). Grappa has been made in Italy since at least the sixteenth century.

GRAPPA - A colorless alcohol with an alcohol content of 40 percent distilled from the pressed skins and seeds of the grapes left after wine making.

Aguglia (It.): garfish. Needlefish, usually grilled or stewed.
Ahi (Jap.): yellow tuna used for sushi.
Ahumado (Sp.): smoked.
Ahumar (Sp.): to smoke foods. For example, pescado ahumado means smoked fish.

aguardiente (Sp.) A very strong Spanish liqueur, similar to Italian grappa or French mare.
aiglefin (Fr.) Haddock.
aigre (Fr.) Sour, tart, bitter.

Some brandy, most notably the Italian variety known as grappa, is made using the seeds, stem, and residue pulp left over from pressing grapes into juice for wine.

Italian espresso that is modified by adding grappa, an Italian liqueur or brandy. This results in a coffee beverage that provides a distinctive flavor sweetened by the addition of the alcohol.

Besides the eau-de-vies, the word 'brandy' includes 'Marc' and the Italian 'Grappa' which are both distilled from the residue of grapes after they have been pressed for wine. They tend to have a harsh and pungent taste.

One of the most common liquors containing rue is grappa con ruta, an Italian draff brandy flavoured with a small branch of rue per bottle. For this, the related Fringed Rue (Aleppo rue, R. chalepensis ) is usually preferred.
