Horehound is one of those plants that thrives in poor soil - dry and sandy does the trick. It is considered a good border plant. Leaves and flowers should be harvested at the peak of blooming, and they can be used fresh or dried.

Horehound (Marrubium vulgare, Lamiaceae) is a greyish-leaved herb, somewhat resembling mint in appearance; traditionally used in the manufacture of cough remedies.

Horehound is a member of the mint family that yields a juice that is only used to make horehound candy - a brittle, sugar-drop confection with a slightly bitter taste, cough syrup and lozenges.

Hyssop is used mainly to relieve coughs and airway congestion - it is used with horehound for bronchitis and asthma, coughs due to colds, nose and throat infections and consumption.
