listeria - Listeria monocytogenes is a Gram-positive bacterium, found in at least 37 mammalian species, as well as 17 species of birds and possibly some fish and shellfish.

 


Several Listeria and Shigella species move inside host cells by usurping the cytoskeleton, which is normally used to move organelles inside the cell.

People, especially pregnant women and moms of young children, should be aware that pre-sliced cold cuts may harbor a very nasty bacteria called listeria.
