Brownish purple on the outside, inside the flesh of the mangosteen is sweet, white and jelly-like, similar to a lychee. Despite its name, it is no relative of the mango but more similar in size and shape to a lime.

Mangosteens are also grown in the Philippines, the same country that produces the world's best mangoes.
