Definition: The fruit of an evergreen tree native to Malaysia and Indonesia, mangosteen is one of the two most popular Asian fruits (the other is durian).

 


Mangosteens are also grown in the Philippines, the same country that produces the world's best mangoes.

Mangosteen - Along with durian, mangosteen is one of the two most popular Asian fruits. However, unlike Durian, which is a yang or hot food, mangosteen is thought to have cooling, yin properties.

A tropical fruit from south-east Asia, the mangosteen is the size of a small peach with a leathery skin which, when peeled away, reveals five sweetly scented white segments.

mangosteen = mangostan Notes: Some claim that this is the most delicious fruit on the planet. It's hard to find outside of the tropics, but I've seen some in Amsterdam. It's about the size of a tomato, and has a leathery, mottled skin.

Mangosteen. Not commonly found outside of South east Asia, this fruit has a dark purple leather like skin. The milky white fruit inside taste sweet and a little sour too.

Also known in Malayan as mangosteen. Korma. To most restaurants this just means a mild curry. Traditionally it is very rich.

Kokum is a tropical evergreen tree, related to the mangosteens. A slender tree with sloping branches, it reaches heights of 15m (50 ft). The thin bark is lined and the leaves oblong.

The reason people from this time period lived so long from the goji berry was because it has so many nutrients in a very high concentration; much like mangosteen and Noni.
