Moussaka (the stress is on the last syllable) is a baked lamb and eggplant casserole covered with a thick layer of bechamel sauce that becomes golden and crusty.

300 gms boiled potato slices
500 gms minced meat
2 nos medium sized onion, chopped
1 tbsp ginger, finely chopped

Moussaka
A sort of Greek "lasagna" layering minced meat (often lamb or beef) and eggplant slices, sometimes with tomatoes, béchamel sauce and cheese.
Mousseline
A sauce made airy with the addition of whipped cream or beaten egg whites.

Moussaka - a traditional dish of the Balkan peninsula, and generally known as Greek. There are many variations, but all are layered casseroles of vegetables and ground meat. A good example is a combination of eggplant with tomatoes and lamb.

Moussakas: browned eggplant slices layered with tomatoes, cheese, onions, and ground meat finished with a bechamel sauce. Typically Greek, there is a faint taste of cinnamon.

Types of casserole include moussaka, ragout, cassoulet, hotpot, lasagne, tajine, shepherd's pie, and carbonnade. Casseroles may be cooked covered or uncovered. Casseroling is done in an oven to bake where heat circulates all around the cooking vessel.

Once prepared, eggplant may be stuffed, grilled, fried, baked, or stir-fried. It is an essential ingredient in several savoury dishes, most notably the Greek moussaka.

Aubergines are common in Greek and Turkish cooking: dishes such as moussaka and imam bayildi (stuffed aubergines). They can also be used in vegetable stews such as ratatouille or on their own, sliced and fried or grilled.
