The nutmeg tree is a large evergreen native to the Moluccas (the Spice Islands) and is now cultivated in the West Indies. It produces two spices " mace and nutmeg.

NUTMEG (from "nut," and O. Fr. mugue, musk, Lat. muscus), the commercial name of a spice representing the kernel of the seed of Myristica fragrans (fig. 5), a dioecious evergreen tree, about 50 to 60 ft.
