Panforte. I have been known to forget my budget when a favorite bakery in town sells panforte during the holidays. I love this chewy, nutty confection, especially on a dessert plate (sliced thin) with chocolate truffles and shortbread.

Panforte - A rich dense torte made of candied fruit and nuts.
Panino - [talian] sandwich.

panforte (pahn-FOR-teh) - An Italian confection (a round, flat cake) that is a cross between fruitcake, candy, and honey cakes. It contains a tiny amount of flour (just enough to hold the fruits and nuts together).

PANFORTE - A dense, cake filled with dried fruits, nuts and spices that is a specialty of Tuscany at Christmas.
PANINO - A bread roll, generally made for sandwiches.

Panforte, a Sienese specialty, combines nuts, honey, candied fruit and spices into a dense round cake coated with confectioner's sugar.
Panko are large flake Japanese breadcrumbs made from crustless white bread.

Panforte - Pronounced pan-FOHR-tay. This Italian Christmas Cake comes from Siena Italy and also goes by the name Siena Cake.
