The pummelo is native to Malaysia and Southeast Asia. Seeds of the pummelo were introduced to the West Indies by the seafaring English Captain Shaddock, who lent his name to the fruit.

pomelo/pummelo (PUHM-uh-low) - Also called Chinese grapefruit, shaddock, pumelo, pommelo, and pompelmous. The pummelo is an exotic large citrus fruit that is an ancient ancestor of the common grapefruit.

Pummelos are also commonly known as Chinese grapefruits. The pummelo has more of a natural sweetness to it compared to a grapefruit, and it's perfect in a refreshing fruit salad.
