RISO - General term for rice, of which Italy has over 50 varieties, including both short and long grain.
Cestini di riso (It.): rice nests. Céteau(x) (Fr.): small ocean fish, solette or baby sole, found in the gulf of Gascony and along the Atlantic coast. Cetrioli (It.): cucumbers.
RICE (Greek 6p15"zt, Latin oryza, French riz, Italian riso, Spanish arros, derived from the Arabic), a well-known cereal, botanical name Oryza sativa.
It came to English from Greek óryza, via Latin oriza, Italian riso and finally Old French ris (the same as present day French riz).
