Sanitize: The killing of pathogenic organisms by chemicals and/or moist heat.

Most wooden cutting boards cannot be put in the dishwasher, but they can be hand washed and sanitized with bleach. Plastic cutting boards can usually be placed in a dishwasher, but they can also warp under excessive heat.

When preparing foods always keep hands and counters clean and well sanitized. Wash hands in hot soapy water and make sure sponges or other cleaning tools are well washed and cleaned thoroughly with cleaning agents.

Be sure to sanitize the thermometer before each use. Wash it; then immerse the stem in 170 degrees F. water for 30 seconds or wipe with a sanitizer.

White vinegar works as a sanitizer, too. Follow the same steps as above, but instead of covering the cutting board with bleach, apply white vinegar or a vinegar solution (one part vinegar to five parts water).

When passing a knife to any other person in the kitchen, place the knife down on a flat, sanitized surface, and let the other person pick it up by the handle. This is the safest way to pass a knife to another person.

3. Keep it clean
Hand sanitizer and moist towelettes are a must for dirty hands when eating outdoors. Don't forget to bring a small disposable bag to collect any trash.

Because of its air-cleansing piney fragrance, the foliage was used as a strewing herb to freshen stale air and the Swiss burned the berries with heating fuel in winter to sanitize stale air.
