Soda water is a flavorless water that has been charged with carbon dioxide, which makes it effervescent. It is also called club soda or seltzer water.

Soda Water - a sparkling water produced by adding carbon dioxide, often in the form of bicarbonate of soda.

Seltzer
Plain soda water
Semolina
A grainy, pale yellow flour that is coarsely ground from hard wheats (like durum). It has a very high protein content. Used primarily for pasta dough.

Seltzer: Plain soda water.
Shallots: Not green/spring onion - mall pointed members of the onion family that grow in clusters something like garlic and have a mild, oniony taste.
Single cream: In the US light cream.

Carbonator: motor-driven water pump, with tank and con-trol valves, to combine cold water and CO² gas in a storage tank, producing soda water. Used for soda fountains, carbonated beverage dispensers, and dispensing systems.

It used to be used as a source of carbon dioxide for soda water.
It can be used when preparing tomato sauce to neutralize the tomato's acidity.
It is added to water used to soak beans; this is said to prevent flatulence.

Though many recipe versions exist, most insist on using seltzer water over soda water, since seltzer does not contain salt. Recipes also advise avoiding mineral water brands like Perrier. A simple recipe uses 12-inch (30.48 cm) frosted glasses.
