A sommelier is a wine expert who specializes in the restaurant side of the wine industry. A sommelier is trained in wine tasting, pairing wine with foods, wine purchasing, wine storage, and the creation of wine lists.

 


Sommelier - The wine steward or waiter.
Sorbet - A frozen dessert made with fruit juice or another flavoring, a sweetener (usually sugar), and beaten egg whites, which prevent the formation of large ice crystals.

Sommelier: an individual who is expected to have extensive knowledge of wines and their suitability with various dishes.
Sonf or Soonf: Fennel seed.
Sont or sonth: Dry ginger.

Sommelier (cellarmaster or wine steward) is a specialized position in the front-of-the-house hierarchy; quite a few sommeliers are only accountable to the gérant or even the maître d', and operate rather autonomical. See also: Career paths.

Winemaker: A person who makes wine. May or may not be formally trained.

Tastevin (lit. wine taster) is a shallow, silver, saucer shaped cup used by sommelier's and others to sample wine. This wine accoutrement has become very collectable.
Tavolo is Italian for table.
