Spanakopita may have risen in popularity in part because of the Lenten calendar of the Greek Orthodox Church. Since initially, consumption of meat was not permitted on any day during Lent, cooks had to look for vegetarian alternatives.

 


Spanakopita: baked in a rectangular pan, this "pie" is matte of buttery layers of phyllo with a center portion of chopped cooked spinach and Feta mixed with bechamel.

Spanakopita is a Greek dish of spinach and feta cheese, inter layered or encased in flaky phyllo pastry.

Vegan Spanakopita is a pie margarine recipe created of bunch of fillo dough, margarine, olive oil, diced onion, chopped fresh spinach, minced fresh parsley, silken tofu, nutritional yeast flakes, lemon juice, some salt and pepper, and nutmeg.
