A spice grinder, or pepper grinder, is a kitchen tool designed to grind fresh pepper as it is needed from whole peppercorns.

With spice grinder in hand, Gustav Brunn traveled to America from Germany, and settled down in Baltimore on the Chesapeake Bay. There on the bay steamed crabs are a staple. So Gustav started grinding.

In a spice grinder, mill chiles, black pepper, cloves, and oregano. Transfer to a bowl; add vinegar, salt, and oil to make the recado paste.

Using a spice grinder, grind the cumin seeds, coriander seeds, peppercorns, cardamom seeds, cloves and cinnamon to a fine powder.
In a food processor, blend the ginger, garlic, chillies and white wine vinegar to a paste.

Ingredients: sherry wine vinegar, fresh ground black pepper...

1 tsp caraway seed (coarsely ground with mortar and pestle or in a spice grinder)
12 ozs beer (budweiser good choice)
3 tbsps sherry wine ...

At that point, you could use a spice grinder to produce your very own ground ginger. But it will suffer the same diminution of flavor you find with store-bought ginger.
