To thaw a whole turkey in the refrigerator, you allow 1 day for every four or five pounds, so we'd set aside two days for such a large turkey breast. It may not take the whole time, but it's better to have it thoroughly thawed than icy in the middle.

 


If you need to thaw frozen meat in less time than the refrigerator method, the next safest process is a cold water bath. Make sure the meat is wrapped in its original packaging or rewrapped in plastic before using the cold water method.

Gobble, Gobble ...

Thaw - to remove food or ingredient from the freezer and allow it to come to its liquid or unfrozen state.
Thicken - to cook or cook down sauces and soups and allow them to become denser. Corn flour is often used for this as well.

Thaw spinach and press or squeeze to remove excess water. Grease a casserole dish and set aside. In a large mixing bowl, combine the spinach, cream cheese, parmesan and 1/4 cup of melted butter. Spoon into casserole dish.

Thaw the pastry sheets at room temperature for 40 min. or until they're easy to handle. Heat the oven to 375 degrees F. Beat the egg yolks and water in a cup with a fork.

Thaw one 8-ounce phyllo roll according to package directions. Keep remaining roll frozen for other use.

Thaw meat slowly in the refrigerator, not on the countertop. Thaw meats in a dish or baking pan with sides or in a plastic bag to catch any drips during thawing.

Thaw a frozen product.
Slap bread:
Hand-shaped bread, slapped thin, such as tortillas and fry bread.

- It's best to thaw shellfish until it's just pliable. There should be a few ice crystals in the flesh when you begin cooking it.

Defrost: thaw.
Defrost system: refrigeration system for a freezer consisting of a blower evaporator coil, heating unit, and controls.

Thaw: To allow food that has been frozen to come back to its original non-frozen state.
Thawed: Frozen food that has been removed from the freezer and has reverted to its original non-frozen state.

If you choose to purchase a frozen bird, you will need to factor in thaw time. Turkey should be thawed in the refrigerator; depending on the size, this can take anywhere from one to six days.
Size. How many people are you feeding?

Refrigeration - Allow approximately 24 hours per five pounds to thaw in the refrigerator.
Cold Water: Allow approximately 30 minutes per pound to thaw in cold water, which should be changed every thirty minutes.

Open the packet of corn and thaw in a colander.
Chop the potatoes into small pieces. Heat the butter and sauté the onion for some time.
Put the green chillies, potatoes, corn, 3 tbsp of cheese and salt and stir properly.

Store whole frozen berries in their unopened or tightly resealed packages in your freezer. If berries are to be served alone, thaw until they are pliable and serve partially frozen.

Allow the bread to thaw inside the plastic bags to re-absorb the moisture lost during the freezing process. To defrost your bread, place it, (unwrapped) on a baking sheet. Heat it in a preheated (350° F) oven, for 10 to 15 minutes.

Ice wine: a rich, flavorful dessert wine, which is made by picking grapes that are frozen on the vine, then pressing them before they thaw.

Be sure to thaw frozen filo in the refrigerator before use. When working with filo, keep those sheets you are not handling at the moment well covered to prevent them from drying out.

For fresh bread, take out several pieces and thaw (microwave four pieces about 20 seconds). Place on a cookie sheet and put in a cold oven. Turn oven on to 350 degrees and bake 15-17 minutes.

Serve fresh blackberries drizzled with honey, with yogurt or ice cream, or tossed in a salad. Cooked desserts and jams incorporate fresh or frozen blackberries equally well-no need to thaw frozen ones before adding them to recipes.

Simply thaw and use. Check the freshness of eggs by placing the whole egg in a glass of cold water. Fresh eggs will stay at the base of glass, older eggs will float or turn sideways and stand upright.
