Timbale is much hardier than souffle, and is often likened to a crustless quiche, because it is less likely to fall after being removed from the oven. Timbale is differentiated from souffle by several things.

Timbale
A high-sided, drum-shaped mold that can taper toward the bottom. The food baked in the mold is usually a custard-based dish. It's unmolded before serving.

Timbale - A small pail-shaped mold used to shape rice, custards, mousselines, and other foods. Also, a preparation made in such a mold.

Timbale A half conical shaped mould of various sizes. Also, a flat bottomed conical shaped silver serving dish. A type of hot meat loaf. Derived from the French word tamballe meaning 'a drum'.

Timbale: 1) a small mold. 2) A dish cooked, served, or molded tomato sauce, a red sauce made from brown stock thickened with tomato puree and roux.
