tisane (tih-ZAN) - Means a herbal tea in Europe. It has come to mean any drink made by infusing parts of an herb or a plant with boiling water. For thousands of years, herbs have been appreciated for their curative powers as an elixir and tonic.

Tisane, or herbal tea, is an infusion of herbs, flowers, spices of other plant matter consumed as a beverage for refreshment or medicinal purposes.
Tobiko is the roe of flying fish.

Infusing dried or fresh herbs, flowers, spices, berries, and roots in boiling water produces herbal teas, or tisanes. Herbal concoctions aren’t really “tea” because they don’t contain leaves from the tea plant.

In medicine an infusion is a treatment in which a patient is attached to a device (a drip) that constantly delivers a liquid into the bloodstream.

There are also teas called tisanes which the main ingredient is a variety of dried fruit. They make great cold drink,s great smoothies, as well as flavored ice cubes. These drinks are a good way to offer nutrition and keep the children drinking.

The American plant called anise hyssop, Agastache fornieulu, is botanically unrelated to hyssop. Its pointed leaves and purple flowers smell and taste of anise and produce a flavorful tisane.
