Wheat beer
This German brewing style substitutes wheat for barley, in a process that lends its distinctive, yeasty aroma.

 


Some specialty beers such as wheat beer are also classified as ales, because they are brewed with top fermenting yeast.

In Bavaria a mix of helles Bier (pale ale) and lemonade is called a Radler (a Radler is also a person that drives a bicycle), as opposed to a mix of Weißbier (wheat beer) and lemonade is called a Russ.

Honey-colored lambic and gueuze resemble ordinary beer but, as with other wheat beers, they are redolent of citrus.

Weisse is Northern German wheat beer.
Weisswurst (lit. white sausage) is German veal sausage.
