Color addition works when we superimpose the primary colors on one another.

 


A color model that uses red, green, and blue, the primary additive colors used to display images on a monitor. RGB colors are produced by emitting light, rather than by absorbing it as is the case with ink on paper.

But don't forget that since tif uses an additive color model, each white pixel has 100% (0xff)of each of the three color components including 100% of the red. BANDPASS knows to leave the red component alone in this case.) ...
