Address range

GIS Address MatchingAddress standardization

address range
[geocoding] Street numbers running from lowest to highest along a street or street segment. Address ranges are generally stored as fields in the attribute table of a street data layer.

Missing Address Ranges (Tiger Files often have Missing Address Ranges)
Gaps in Address Ranges
Missing Zip Codes
Incorrect Zip Codes
Use of highway numbers instead of name. (e.g. Highway 2A instead of Massachusetts Ave.) ...

streets with address ranges from the ESRI's Streetmap database.
a selection of blockgroup-level data from the 2000 census from Geolytics.
The locations of Eastern Massachusetts Schools and Protected Openspace from MassGIS.

Tele Atlas street address range data is the primary reference dataset to obtain latitude and longitude coordinates and geocodes.

TIGER files contain street address ranges along lines and census tract/block boundaries. This descriptive data can be used to associate address information and census/demographic data with coverage features.

A reference theme is required to geocode individual addresses, such as a road centerline file with address ranges. The individual address locations have historically been interpolated, or estimated, by examining address ranges along a road segment.

The 2003 TIGER/Line files contain very few updates to street features or address ranges from the Census 2000 versions of the TIGER/Line files.

In another allied public field, TIGER files have been shown to have reasonably accurate address ranges and effectively associat e street addresses with census polygons.

GIS design alternatives
GIS systems rely on one of three basic overall systems design alternatives: 1) street span systems (consists of address range records in which the beginning and ending intersection points describe a street span), 2) ...

The street centerline attribute data may be incorrect for the address range, street name or ZIP code.
A street may be "flipped" so the address is placed on the wrong side or at the opposite end of the street.

Segment Information (esp. from sources such as TIGER) includes a maximum upper bound for addresses and is interpolated as though the full address range is used.

Geographic Base File/dual Independent Map Encoding (GBF/DIME) - A data exchange format developed by the US Census Bureau to convey information about block-face/street address ranges related to 1980 census tracts.

It includes geocoded block faces with address ranges of street numbers. This means than that they include topology and can address match. The maps are a combination of DLG and DBF/DIME files.

Devise a scheme for creating and maintaining a constantly updated digital file of all streets and associated address ranges etc., i.e. a perpetually current TIGER.

add fast and reliable routing capabilities to ArcIMS Web site.
add geocoding and reverse geocoding (converting a latitude/longitude location to the nearest address or address range), routing options, and routing to multiple stops.
