alternate name See Also: alias [geocoding] A name for an address element, usually a street name, that is different from the official or most common name. For example, a highway number might be an alternate name for a street name.

Paleontologists sometimes refer to a sequence of 80 or so faunal stages. Fauna is also an alternate name for Bona Dea, Ops, Terra and Tellus, ancient Roman goddesses. The name Marica is also used.
