analysis of variance [statistics] A statistical procedure used to evaluate the variance of the mean values for two or more datasets in order to assess the probability that the data comes from the same sample or statistical population.
In statistics, analysis of variance (ANOVA) is a collection of statistical models, and their associated procedures, in which the observed variance is partitioned into components due to different explanatory variables.
The analysis of variance showed that the greatest effect on Ej was due to differences in the mortality functions simulated, explaining nearly 50% of the total variance in the total sums of squares (Table 2).
