Anticlines are upfolds (arched upwards) whereas synclines are downfolds (shallow- to steep-sided U shape). In a series of folds anticlines are always next to synclines that in turn are next to anticlines (unless disrupted by faulting).

anticline -- A fold of rock layers that is convex upwards. Antonym of syncline.
archipelago -- n. A group of islands; an expanse of water with scattered islands.

anticline A fold that is convex upward, or that had such an attitude at some stage of its development. compare syncline .
aphanitic A textural term meaning "fine-grained" that applies to igneous rocks.

The simplest types of folds include monoclines, anticlines, and synclines. A recumbent fold is a more complex type of fold where one limb of the fold passes the vertical. Faults form when the stress applied to rock does exceed its internal strength.

The dipping rock units between the crest of an anticline and the trough of a syncline.
Limestone:
A sedimentary rock consisting of at least 50% calcium carbonate (CaCO2) by weight.
