[ESRI software] A dockable window used to display, manage, and use the contents of toolboxes in ArcGIS.

 


ArcToolbox
ArcToolbox contains a number of different toolboxes for various geoprocessing functions. These range from things as simple as converting data type to things as complex as multivariate statistical analysis in multidimensional space.

ArcToolbox -One of the 3 main components that make up ArcGIS. It is an organized collection of tools for GIS analysis, data management, and data conversion. It is accessed in both ArcMap and ArcCatalog. Also see ArcMap and ArcToolbox.

Start ArcToolbox, and choose Conversion Tools - Import to Raster - DEM to Grid. Read the Help information before you begin, then follow the instructions.
The USGS DEM is the file that ends in .dem (e.g., 3097420g.dem) ...

Add your ArcToolbox Panel to ArcMap by clicking on the little red toolbox icon on your toolbar.
Open the Spatial Analyst toolbox and the Surface Tools toolbox within this. Then double-click the slope tool to open the Slope Wizard.

Your shapefile's polygon data must be in Geographic, Decimal Degree NAD83.

Use the "Import to Raster" -
"ASCII to Grid" tool to create a binary grid which can be selected using ArcCatalog. The spatial analyst extension may need to be installed and activated within Arc.

The ArcCatalog module, center panel is the ArcToolBox, right panel is showing metadata.
