arithmetic expression
See Also: expression
[mathematics] A number, variable, function, or combination of these, with operators or parentheses, or both, that can be evaluated to produce a single number.

Arithmetic expressions using constants and field values are allowed in condition clauses and in the RHS of assignments. Usual precedence rules and bracketing (using '(' and ')') are supported. Type conversion is performed if necessary (experimental).

arithmetic function ...

equation itemAn arithmetic expression used in place of an itemname in an ARC/INFO command. For example, to list feature areas, a user could specify LIST AREA; to list areas in acres instead of square feet, a user could specify LIST AREA / 43560.

Table capabilities include sums, averages, and counts across rows and columns, and standard arithmetic expressions based on cell values. Table calculations are automatically updated as your designs and documentation progress.

Features can be offset from the base elevation by a constant, by a numeric attribute or arithmetic expression. This can be used to float features over a surface (such as utility lines).

These algebraic expressions can be simple arithmetic expressions or can consist of complex spatial and algebraic functions.
