ATTRIBUTE DATA MODELS
A separate data model is used to store and maintain attribute data for GIS software.

Feature: Attribute and association review
All current information on spaces and assets is available instantaneously from one source - avoiding redundant or out-of-date information. Detail level can be controlled for various users.

Feature Attributes
In ArcView, features are stored in a database along with information describing them. The descriptive information stored with a feature is called the feature's attributes.

The Seven Attributes of an Effective Records Management Program
You can view the complete version of this publication in PDF or an accessible version or by ordering a print copy.

Importantly, each attribute listed above is interactively edited by an image analyst based on air photo interpretation, usually resulting in the correction of 5- 20% of the labels for each attribute.

Looking at all your GIS attribute data along side one another can be very helpful when determining the proper way to join them together.

For each layer in ArcGIS (except for floating-point grids, discussed later), an attribute table exists. The table stores feature geometry type (point, line, polygon, etc.), as well as any other user-defined attributes.

Attribute data are descriptions, measurements, and/or classifications of the geographic features. Attribute data can be classified into 4 levels of measurement: nominal, ordinal, interval and ratio.

Attribute management in general
GRASS can be linked to one or many database management systems (DBMS). The db.* set of commands provides basic SQL support for attribute management, while the v.db.

Attribute data: Data that relate to a specific, precisely defined location. The data are often statistical but may be text, images or multimedia. These are linked in the GIS to spatial data that define the location.

Attributes: Characteristics of a geographic feature described by numbers, characters, and images, typically stored in a tabular format and linked to the feature by an identifier. A column in a database table.

Attribute data is descriptive information about features or elements of a database. For a database feature like census tract, attributes might include many demographic facts including total population, average income, and age.

1. A characteristic of a geographic feature described by numbers, characters, images and CAD drawings, typically stored in tabular format and linked to the feature by a user-assigned identifier (e.g.

Attribute 1. A numerical, text, or image field in a relational database table that describes a spatial feature such as a point, line, area, or cell.
2.

Attribute: Alphanumeric (non-graphic) data related to a specific map feature (point, line or polygon). For example, parcel information linked to a specific parcel (polygon) might include the parcel owner's name and the parcel address.

attribute data - Characteristic or descriptive information about a geographic feature (points, lines, or areas) stored in either tabular format or relational format.

Attributes
Characters or numbers describing some characteristic about a spatial feature.

Attribute
Information about a spatial feature. For example, attributes about a school may be the name, level of education, and number of students.

Attribute - "1. Descriptive information characterizing a geographical feature (point, line, area). 2. Commonly, a fact describing an entity in a relational model, equivalent to the column in a relational table" (Bonham-Carter, 1994, p. 348).

Attribute is the term used in the theory for what is commonly referred to as a column. Similarly, table is commonly used in place of the theoretical term relation (though in SQL the term is by no means synonymous with relation).

Attribute Accuracy
The accuracy or reliability of attribute data within the limits described by feature completeness.

Attributes are information related to a map feature (e.g. census demographics pertaining to census tract).
Centroids are point locations representing areas, buildings or an approximate location.

Attribute - a characteristic which describes a Feature. Attributes can be thought of as questions which are asked about the Feature.

Map attributes
Every flat map of the earth must distort some of the earth's features. Therefore, when we analyze a the properties of a given map, we focus on certain important map attributes that the map may or may not have.

feature attribute table : A table used by ARC/INFO to store attribute information for a specific coverage feature class. Feature attribute tables supported include: Cover.PAT for polygons or points Cover.AAT for arcsCover.NAT for nodes Cover.

feature attribute table A table used to store attribute information for a specific coverage feature class. ArcInfo maintains the first several items of these tables. Feature attribute tables supported for coverages include:

Attribute-Nongraphic descriptive information about features, characteristics or elements of a database. For a database feature like census tract, attributes might include many demographic facts including total population, average income, and age.

Attribute labeling is another issue here. GIS and mapping data requires extensive attribute labeling to link graphical items to database, while CAD drawing are mostly shape and geometry oriented and spatial analysis is hardly done.

An attribute table is a table that contains information on the associated spatial feature(s) in a View.

The attribute information about the feature also must be recorded. This frequently is done by labeling each feature with a unique number and building a list of attributes for each uniquely labeled feature.

The attributes whose values will determine the symbols
The method by which attributes will be classified
What each classification will look like (colors, line styles, hatch patterns, point symbols, text fonts) ...

All attribute coding shall be 100% correctly coded. A full description of each code should be provided as part of the metadata. The coding of features should follow an approved classification system as adopted by state and federal agencies.

Applying Attribute and Spatial Constraints
You may have noticed by looking at the object model diagrams for Table and FeatureClass that each of the methods used to return a cursor contains a parameter that specifies an instance of IQueryFilter.

Open the attribute file and sort the elevation column by right-clicking at the top and choosing "Sort Ascending". Select those values that reflect your coastline.

Open the attributer table for the zoning Layer.
Open the ZOnecode Lookup Table
Arrange the tables so that you can see some polygons that are in the zone Right of Way.

Entity and Attribute Information -- What geographic information (roads, houses, elevation, temperature, etc.) is included? How is the information encoded? Were codes used? What do the codes mean?

Organising attribute data
GIS use raster and vector representations to model earth features or phenomena. Apart from the l locations, GIS must also record information about them.

System Attribute A system attribute is the perceived characteristic of a system element. For example, number, size, color, volume, and temperature may be some of the perceived characteristics of clouds in the atmospheric system.

The class has attributes which determine the kinds of data the objects of the class can possess. Also operations called methods are associated with the class that can work with the data (attributes) of the class.

Today, these early attributes of maps have evolved from exploratory guides to physical space into management tools for exploring spatial relationships.

Edge Match An editing procedure to ensure that all features crossing adjacent map sheets have the same edge locations attribute descriptions, and feature classes.
