attribute table - [data structures] A database or tabular file containing information about a set of geographic features, usually arranged so that each row represents a feature and each column represents one feature attribute.
A tabular file containing rows and columns. Descriptive attributes about some object, such as a geographic feature, are contained in each row. The same column in each row represents the same attribute. See also Feature Attribute Table.

Most GIS enable the user to view the data in tabular form without necessarily using map graphics at all. This is equivalent to using typical office spreadsheet software.
attribute tableAn INFO or other tabular file containing rows and columns. In ARC/INFO, attribute tables are associated with a class of geographic features, such as wells or roads. Each row represents a geographic feature.
Layer tables exist for every feature class (i.e., point, line, or polygon) layer added to a data frame. The records in the attribute table have a one-to-one correspondence to the spatial features in the coordinate part of the layer.

value attribute table (VAT) Value attribute table. A table containing attributes for a grid. In addition to user-defined attributes, the VAT contains the values assigned to cells in the grid and a count of the cells with those values.
~ is only created if it is needed, i.e. when at least one attribute column is present in the input file besides geometry columns. The attribute column types have to be declared along with the geometry columns using the columns parameter.
An ~ is a table that contains information on the associated spatial feature(s) in a View.
The ~s can be sorted in ascending or descending alphanumeric order.
Sorting is done by activating a field in the ~ and selecting the ascending or descending button.

SELECT denotes what attribute table fields you wish to view.
FROM denotes the attribute table in which the information resides.
WHERE denotes the user-defined criteria for the attribute information that must be met in order for it to be included in the output set.
A data type referring to text columns in an attribute table (such as NAME). Choropleth A choropleth map portrays a statistical surface with area symbols (colours), which represent the collection regions, inferring uniformity within these units e.g. counties, provinces, forest polygons.

Attribute table - A table that is attached to a data layer that contains many characteristics of a feature on a map.
The feature attribute table of the GIS coverage defines the geographic properties of the L spatial units and gives each a unique identifying number. This table has geographic attributes as its columns or fields for which the values in each spatial unit are displayed in rows.
After you trace each feature, enter the feature's key identifier into the layer's attribute table (see Figure 2.20). How you enter key identifiers depends on whether the feature's layer is brand new or whether you are updating an existing feature layer.
A union overlay combines the geographic features and attribute tables of both inputs into a single new output. An intersect overlay defines the area where both inputs overlap and retains a set of attribute fields for each.
In digital form these spatial data have been linked to attribute tables that describe characteristics and conditions of the map features.
Associated attribute tables include detailed finds information which enable the development of artefact distribution patterns, incorporating those finds recovered by the metal detector users, and during the controlled excavations. The final excavation report is in preparation (Richards in prep).

The structure of the ~ is defined in its schema. The schema is not editable after its initial creation.
Within GIS exist tables of data about places called "~s" - basically spreadsheets, where each row is a geographic feature (e.g., a property parcel) and each column is data about that feature (e.g., owner name, parcel size, date purchased, etc.).
Route-system features and event handling commands provide the dynamic segmentation capability within GIS systems to dynamically locate events on linear features that are obtained from ~s of events for which distance measures are available.
Likewise, GIS users can now exercise total control over engineering units directly within ArcGIS' ~s, using the same FlexTables technology found in the easy-to-use stand-alone platform.

In a coverage, features are stored as both primary features (points, arcs, polygons) and secondary features (tics, links, annotation). Feature attributes are described and stored independently in feature ~s. Coverages cannot be edited in ArcGIS.
