Image classification.(Software)
eCognition elements from Definiens Imaging classifies satellite and aerial imagery and is designed for a range of remote sensing skills--from novice to expert.

Classification Stage
Each pixel is categorised into landcover class to which it closely resembles. If the pixel is not similar to the training data, then it is labeled as unknown.

We don't classify most of the categories, such as those above involving use of remote sensing, under a heading of "Basic Science" studies, although principles of science, such as the physics of electromagnetic radiation, are involved.

This classification is intended to cover temporary control used for alignment, grading, and measurement of various types of construction and some local site-plan topographic-mapping or photo-mapping control work.

Classification
Below are terms used for various types of wetlands:
A bog or muskeg is acidic peat land (peat bog).
A moor was originally the same as a bog but has come to be associated with this soil type on hill-tops.

Class- A set of pixels in a GIS or image file that represent areas that have the same attribute or share the same condition. Classification The process and operations used to assign pixels of a continuous raster image to predefined classes.

Classification of Vector Overlay Operations
Topological vector overlay operations can be classified via two methods:

CLASS

Classification of Map Projections
Most projections are derived from mathematical formulas, but some are easier to visualize as projected on to a developable surface.

class
[data analysis] A set of entities grouped together on the basis of shared attribute values.
[data models] Pixels in a raster file that represent the same condition.

Classification processes frequently are performed after a retrieval process and are used to assign a new attribute.

CLASSI
Describes the appearance of the wetland in terms of vegetation or substrate.

Classification - A method of generalization. In the process of classification, an attempt is made to group data into classes according to some common characteristics, thereby reducing the number of data elements.

Classification - The process of placing items into groups or categories, according to a predefined set of rules. For example, maps and map projections may be classified according to their use, scale, properties or appearance.

Classification
1. The systematic grouping of attributes or entities into categories that are distinguished by a shared characteristic.
2. The process of identifying a set of features as belonging to a group.

A class of map projections in which the parallels are represented by a system of non-concentric circular arcs with centers lying on the straight line representing the central meridian (Lee 1944).

Soil classification systems have been created to provide scientists and resource managers with a system to determine the charateristics of a soil in a particular location. Several different classification systems exist.

Another classic problem related to contour line extraction is handling areas of high gradient, i.e. where contour lines are very close together. Often, contour lines are grouped so closely together that they join into one blurred mess.

feature class The type of feature represented in a coverage. Coverage feature classes include arcs, nodes, label points, polygons, tics, annotation, links, boundaries, routes, and sections.

feature class 1. A classification describing the format of geographic features and supporting data in a coverage. Coverage feature classes for representing geographic features include point, arc, node, route-system, route, section, polygon and region.

land use classification system Coding system of categories and subcategories designed for use on a map to designate land or water use.

Discrete Data Categorical data such as types of vegetation, or class data such as speed zones. In geographical terms, discrete data can be represented by polygons. Sometimes referred to as integer data. In contrast, see continuous data.

An example would be land cover classification. [LINK] Raster data files can be manipulated quickly by the computer, but they are often less detailed an may be less visually appealing than vector data files, ...

classification scheme An arrangement or division of objects into groups based on characteristics that the objects have in common, e.g., origin, composition, structure, application, function, etc.

Layer: A usable subdivision of a dataset, generally containing objects of certain classes, for example rivers, roads or buildings.

The study of sedimentary rock units, including their geographic extent, age, classification, characteristics and formation.
Stratovolcano:
A volcanic cone made up of alternating layers of lava flows and pyroclastics. Also known as a composite cone.

These can be classified and stored as point, line, area, polygon, grid cell, or object.
spatial data transfer standard (SDTS).

For example, reasoning that a land cover type classified as Deciduous Needleleaf Trees in one dataset is a specialization of land cover type Forest in another more roughly-classified dataset can help a GIS automatically merge the two datasets under ...

The resulting data base consists of land cover by class for 1984, land cover by class for 1988 and 1989, and a matrix of changes by class from 1984 to 1988-89.

The class assignments have been designed to use small (relative to most GIS projects) datasets, that require little personal space; however, ...

They enable you to store multiple feature classes and the topological relationship among them. All feature classes in a feature data set must share the same spatial reference.

The "GIS is a tool" position sees GIS as the use of a particular class of software, the associated hardware tools such as digitizers and plotters, and digital geographic data in order to advance some specific purpose.

Hierarchical: A logical structure that classifies information in a series of steps, starting with broad, simple classifications, and proceeding, in stages, to narrow, precise classifications.

A set of characters (alpha, alpha/numeric or numeric) within the GIS, which uniquely identifies a feature class or homogeneous group of features.

Attribute tables are normally associated with a class of geographic features. Each row represents a geographic feature. Each column represents one attribute of a feature, with the same column representing the same attribute in each row.
