GIS Complex ObjectComponent

A complex surface is a complex two-manifold and thus a real four-manifold; it is not a surface in the sense of this article. Neither are algebraic curves or surfaces defined over fields other than the complex numbers.

A single raindrop bends and twists as it flows down the complex surface.

More complex surfaces have radii of curvature that vary over the surface. The radius of curvature describes the radius of the sphere that best approximates the surface at that point.

Here we see complex surface and mesh modeling with mapped textures. MicroStation also includes advanced modeling technologies for easy-to-use solids modeling and easy-to-change parametric feature-based solids modeling.

The mishmash of intersecting linear features, called grooved terrain, in this case may be a complex surface of eroded ash deposits or possibly joint enlargement of a now buried remnant of a volcanic lava unit.

In the image below, this surface dew point temperature information has been incorporated into a more complex surface map generated for the same time.

In comparison with other methods, numerical approximation allows representation of more complex surfaces (particularly those with anomalous features), restricts the spatial influence of any errors, ...

A complex surface can then be modeled by the use of a series of interconnected and non-overlapping triangles. Where surface features are more complex, there are generally a larger number of smaller triangles.
