Compromise Solution
A rational compromise solution can be sought when the actors are known previously. All the solutions (representations by actors) are computed, and by superimposing maps we directly get the common paths, if there are.

Compromise projections give up the idea of perfectly preserving metric properties, seeking instead to strike a balance between distortions, or to simply make things "look right".

compromise projection
A projection that does not have equal area, conformal, or equidistant characteristics. The compromise projection is an attempt at balance between these characteristics, and is often used in thematic mapping.

The chosen compromise design, the COBE Quadrilaterized Spherical Cube (Chan and O'Neill, 1975) or "sky cube", is based on the gnomonic projection but the center of every face is expanded in order to make an approximately equal-area map.

Data can be compromised or disclosed by hackers attempting to steal names, Social Security numbers, credit card accounts and other information is one method of obtaining data.

Let's compromise. There is a lot in Canada, but there is nothing in the north. We need dual, triple, whatever frequencies to do all these things.

Since by their very nature projections are a compromise, each method produces a map with different properties.

Cost recovery, at first glance, seems an equitable compromise pricing of the data. A higher price derives profit that sort flies in the face of a public good and blurs the line between public and private sectors.

Since a map is 2-dimensional representation of a 3-dimensional world, compromises must be made. Different maps differ in the relative accuracy of the depiction of the area, the shapes of objects, actual distances, and compass direction.

Algorithms like the Wave Plan Method (a.k.a. the Wave Characteristic Method) compromise the accuracy of solutions by only computing results at junctions.

"Musts" and "Wants" A conceptual distinction between (e.g. location) requirements which cannot be compromised or substituted (musts) and factors which are open to bargaining or substitution (wants).

Today, on behalf of President Bush, I am pleased to announce that the next generation of GPS satellites (GPS III) will deliver signals without any compromise in precision -- guaranteed.

Since this cannot be done without distortion, the user must choose the map property to be shown accurately at the expense of others, or a compromise of several properties (Snyder 1987).

3. Name an example of a conformal, equal area, and compromise map.

The compromise can be found by one of the following strategies: beginning the training with a small two hidden layer net with say 5-5 nodes in each.

An equidistant map, in which the scale is correct along a certain direction, is seldom desired. However, an equidistant map is a useful compromise between the conformal and equal-area maps. Shape and area distortions are moderate.

For some reason NIMA feels that release of its 100m DTED 1 data would compromise national security, despite the fact that the USGS provides 30m elevation data for the entire United States! ...

The default map type=FCELL is intended as compromise between preserving data precision and limiting system resource consumption.

The Kronstadt Rebellion was also characterised as left communist by the Bolshevik leaders of the time, conducted as it was by sailors who moved from being fervent supporters of the revolution to opponents of its slow, and in their view compromised, ...

result from the need to reproject the earth's round shape [technically a geoid, not a sphere] on a flat plane. In brief, it is impossible for a flat map to be accurate in aspect, distance, and shape- at least one of these factors must be compromised ...

optical media are currently available for mass storage, including magnetic disks, magnetic tapes, magnetic cassettes, and optical disks. The selection of a suitable mass storage device for a GIS database usually involves establishing a compromise ...

bottom) to multiples of 100--it can be helpful in later analyses for grid cells to line up, rather than originate at practically random locations. Choose a cell size around 25 to 50 (100 or more when first experimenting) for a reasonable compromise ...
