continental crust -- The Earth's crust that includes both the continents and the continental shelves.
continental margin -- n. The ocean floor from the shore of continents to the abyssal plain.

 


Continental Crust Granitic portion of the Earth's crust that makes up the continents. Thickness of the continental crust varies between 20 to 75 kilometers. See sial layer.

Granite is thought to be one of the main components of continental crust.
