Ground Control Stations
Several ground control stations exist for the GPS. The Master Control facility is located at Schriever Air Force Base (formerly Falcon AFB) in Colorado.

Master Control Station (MCS)
The master control station in Colorado is where 2SOPS performs the primary control segment functions, providing command and control of the GPS constellation.

These control stations were often located on high mountains or hilltops in order to see between the stations, called "line-of sight", for measurements using triangulation, traverse and trilateration survey methods.

Existing Control Stations
3-17. Existing control stations (and their establishing surveys) follow similar patterns. Recognizing and associating the patterns with the terrain types will assist the surveyor in locating existing stations.

Also called a control station. A monumented point to which coordinates have been, or are being assigned by the use of surveying observations. The National Geodetic Survey maintains a nation-wide set of control points.

[12] The tracking information is sent to the Air Force Space Command's master control station at Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, which is operated by the 2d Space Operations Squadron (2 SOPS) of the United States Air Force (USAF).

With a network of 12 transmitters sited around the coastline and three control stations, it was set up in 1998 by the countries' respective General Lighthouse Authorities (GLA) - Trinity House covering England, Wales and the Channel Islands, ...

A system of transmitting satellites and ground control stations that allows someone with a suitable signal receiving and processing device (GPS receiver) to accurately determine their location at any point on or above the earth.

Colorado Springs serves as the master control station. The Control Segment is the sole responsibility of the DoD who undertakes construction, launching, maintenance, and virtually constant performance monitoring of all GPS satellites.

Control Segment
A worldwide chain of monitoring and control stations that control and manage the GPS satellite constellation.

Close monitoring of the clock of each satellite from the ground permits the control station to insert a message in the signal of each satellite which precisely describes the drift rate of that satellite's clock.

control station Point on the ground whose position (horizontal or vertical) is known and can be used as a base for additional survey work.
